Markus Grohs Díez, CFGS student of Automation and Industrial Robotics, member of the ISA San Juan Bosco Cartagena Student Section, has obtained, together with his team, a silver medal in the eighth ISA-SAIT WORLD STUDENT GAMES 2020 in Calgary, Canada , last week.
International Industrial Instrumentation Games are organized at the South Alberta Institute of Technology.
SAIT, by the ISA section in Calgary.
For the second consecutive year, a student from the San Juan Bosco Center has been chosen to represent ISA Spanish Section, along with a student from the Student Section of lSA University of Valladolid in the international industrial instrumentation games for students of the student sections of ISA, International Society of Automation.
The 8th edition of the International Industrial Instrumentation Games for ISA Student Sections was held on March 11, 12, 13 and 14 in Calgary, Alberta, organized by the ISA Student Section SAIT.
As a representation of the so-called ISA District 12, four European students attended, two Irish and two Spanish.
As in other editions, the games consisted of performing, in teams of four, six tests or challenges related to industrial instrumentation over three days.
The teams are formed at the beginning of the competition and are made up of students from different sections, so they are not known until the time the competition starts.
In this way, it is intended to promote the spirit of teamwork and communication, in addition to knowledge in instrumentation.
Each team is assigned a color and rotates tests in the laboratories of SAIT's MacPhail School of Energy on the impressive campus of the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, equivalent to a mix of higher-grade vocational school and Polytechnic University.
Initially, the students carried out a team buliding activity in the famous city of Banff, in the Rocky Mountains, to configure the competition teams.
Subsequently, six tests related to the following topics were carried out: maintenance of instrumentation, tuning of PID loops, analyzers of process variables, configuration of communications and SCADA, programming of Distributed Control Systems and a test called 'McGyver' where different tests must be carried out. circuit construction and valve connection tasks.
The Student Branch of the ISA Spanish Section made the selection of the students.
Markus had to pass an interview in English and they carried out various activities for several weeks to prepare for the competition.
The expedition has been sponsored and subsidized by the ISA Spanish Section. The organization of the games included the accommodation and maintenance of the students, as well as local public transport.
Participation in the SAIT Student Section 2020 World Student Games has been a great experience, as well as getting to know Calgary, in the state of Alberta, a typical Canadian city covered these days by the snow of a rigorous winter, reaching up to - 21 ° C.
ISA Spanish Section is an active professional association that promotes the dissemination and dissemination of knowledge in the field of automation based in Madrid Spain, not only to professionals, but also to students with their support and sponsorship of the activities of the student sections. .
ISA Spanish Section has ten student sections, making it one of the most active sections in Europe.
We thank once again the ISA Spanish Section, the San Juan Bosco Center, also the ISA SAIT Student Section, ISA Calgary and the SAIT volunteers and teachers, as well as the professionals of the different sponsors, for allowing us to enjoy this unforgettable experience.
