The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, has called for responsibility and calm to all the people of Cartagena before the decision of the Autonomous Community to confine the residents of Cartagena and the entire coastline of the Region after the massive arrival of Madrid tourists who have caused the spread of the coronavirus to accelerate.
"It is a measure that we support because what is at stake is the health of our neighbors," said the mayor.
The safety of the neighbors is guaranteed since all the Local Police and Fire services will be maintained, in addition, this decision does not affect supermarkets or pharmacies.
The mayor has asked the neighbors to be responsible, to stay in their homes and not to leave their homes unless it is essential.
In a public appearance the president of the Community, Fernando López Miras, has announced the signing of a confinement decree throughout the coastal area of the autonomous community, which will affect municipalities of Cartagena, San Javier, San Pedro del Pinatar, Los Alcázares, La Unión, Mazarrón and Águilas, where there will be no freedom of movement and all businesses will be closed except for food and pharmaceuticals.
The president of the Autonomous Community, Fernando López Miras, has said that he has been forced to adopt it due to the "irresponsibility" of the large number of people from the Community of Madrid who have taken quarantine as a "vacation".
In addition, he warned that the measures could be extended to other areas of the region if irresponsible attitudes continue and the recommendations to stay isolated and avoid non-essential exits are not followed.
