Firefighters of the Firefighting, Rescue and Civil Protection Services of the City Council of Cartagena suffocated the fire declared at noon in a basement with about 200 garage spaces closed in the Mediterranean Urbanization early in the afternoon.
The incident began around 12:30 pm on the ground floor of a block of flats located between Rubí and Esmeralda streets.
Quickly, fire units moved to the place that confirmed that the fire had started in one of the garages for unknown reasons, from which it had spread to another in front.
Given the amount of materials accumulated in one of the garages a large amount of smoke has been produced, so it has been necessary to use autonomous groups to be able to stop the flames from inside the basement.
As a result of the fire the homes were evicted, returning the neighbors to them after the extinction.
The gallery of one of the houses located on the first floor was very affected, so firefighters have closed it until checking the state of its structure.
About three o'clock in the afternoon the firefighters continued in the area ventilating and cooling the basement, waiting to declare the fire completely extinguished.
