The hoteliers of Cartagena will be able to contribute their grain of sand in the care of the environment through the separation of the plastic containers, cans and briks (those that go to the yellow container) that they generate so that, later, they can be recycled.
Thus, Ecoembes, the environmental organization that coordinates the recycling of packaging in Spain, takes this initiative to the municipality, in which the City Council and the association of hoteliers Hostecar collaborates.
To make this separation possible in the establishments, Ecoembes has delivered to the City Council of Cartagena a total of 120 yellow containers, which the municipality will distribute among those hotels, restaurants and bars that are part of Hostecar that want to be part of this initiative.
The project was presented this morning at an event that took place at the Alfonso XIII hotel and attended by the Councilor for Infrastructure, Services and Coast of Cartagena, María Luisa Casajús;
the president of Hostecar, Juan José López;
the manager of Ecoembes in the Region of Murcia, Alberto Fernández, and the president of Agruphotel, Bartolomé Vera.
Councilwoman María Casajús has said that “24 establishments in the municipality of Cartagena, which are part of Hostecar, will be participating in the campaign, with about 60 containers that will be delivered by the municipal technical services, who will be responsible for giving general notions for the correct use of the selection of this type of packaging that can be deposited and the way of handling the container â€.
Casajús has highlighted the importance of involving hotel and hotel premises in this recycling campaign because of its important production in this type of waste, which means greater difficulties when it comes to recycling.
For that, we have to thank Hostecar members for their participation and we hope that more places will continue to be added in the campaign.
For Alberto Fernández, initiatives of this type help “recycling packaging be implemented not only in our homes, but also in those places where we spend more time.
Therefore, it is necessary to have the collaboration of committed hoteliers, because thanks to them it is possible to give a second life to the waste they generate in their daily activity.
Together, little by little, we evolved steadily towards a circular economy model. "
The president of Hostecar, Juan José López has informed that the rest of the containers will remain available to Hostecar for those premises and establishments that want to adhere to the recycling campaign.
The containers are to be delivered free of charge and only the commitment of the hoteliers is requested to be used for the purpose for which they are delivered, that is, for the collection of light containers.
For his part, the manager of Ecoembes in the Region of Murcia, Alberto Fernández, explained that the selective collection of containers continues to grow year after year, in the first two months of 2020 there has been a growth of 20% compared to the same period in 2019.
María Casajús commented that “the selective collection of light packaging in the municipality of Cartagena has not stopped growing since 2015. Specifically, in 2019 there has been an increase of 14% compared to the previous year.
Currently, there are a total of 1,406 containers with a capacity of 2,400 liters for the collection of light containers â€.
