This training action, which will take place this Friday and Saturday, is aimed at sailors and sailors with concerns about improving the interpretation of the weather forecast.
The Campus of the Catholic University San Antonio has promoted for this Friday and Saturday, together with the Sailing Federation of the Region of Murcia, a practical workshop of meteorology applied to navigation at height with the trainers Dídac Costa (two tours around the world in Regatta, Barcelona World Race and Vendée Globe) and Gabi Pérez (Master in Meteorology, Astronomy and Astrophysics, trainer specialized in meteorology and oceanography)
This training action, promoted by the Faculty of Sports of the UCAM, is aimed at sailors and sailors with the need to improve the interpretation of the weather forecast, with no previous advanced knowledge of meteorology being necessary.
The contents of this course include 'basic weather prediction tools: surface analysis maps already at 500hPa and 200hPa', real observations such as the interpretation of satellite images, ocean buoys and satellite scaterometry, and numerical models of weather and wave prediction, including parameters of interest for navigation.
In addition, we will work with data acquisition and processing software for prediction models, as well as navigation and routage, establishing a navigation plan and data analysis, with polar preparation, regatta analysis, routing and case studies.
Students will be given practical exercises on Friday, which they will have to solve for the next session and which will be evaluated by the trainers.
The duration of this training program is 7 hours (3 hours on Friday afternoon and 4 on Saturday morning).
