On Tuesday, March 10, in the Plaza de San Francisco, the starting gun of the commemorative activities of the bicentenary of the death of the great playwright from Cartagena, Isidoro Máiquez, will take place.
It will be at a press conference at 11:00 am, next to the monument to the famous actor, where the Bicentennial program will be announced, which will end in March 2021.
Before the media will appear the councilors of the area of ​​Culture, Youth and Equality, David Martínez, and Culture, Carlos Piñana, along with members of the organizing committee.
The presentation will feature a live theatrical performance, by José Ortas Cayuela, who will put himself in the shoes of Othello, the character that made Isidoro Máiquez famous and two renowned artists, Petrus Borgia and Sofía Tornero, who they will paint the monument to the actor live.
From the City Council of Cartagena, the Department of Culture has been coordinating a program of events on the occasion of this Bicentennial that will take place throughout the year and born from the collaboration of a Commemorative Commission composed of a group of professionals from the world of culture, art, literature and the regional scene, with the support and participation of the Municipal Commission of Performing Arts of the Culture Council.
An ambitious program of cultural events has been developed in order to turn the next 12 months into a true Year of Máiquez and Theater, throughout the municipality and the Region.
It includes exhibitions, book presentations, round tables, informative workshops and theatrical performances, with the aim of putting in value and publicizing one of the inescapable references in the history of Spanish theater.
In the presentation of the Bicentennial program, the opening acts will also be announced, which will take place on Tuesday, March 17, 2020, also in the San Francisco square.
