Yesterday MC Cartagena, through its municipal spokesman, José López, announced the beginning of "a round of meetings with the business community of the Region to coordinate efforts and initiatives that prevent the recession and depression imposed on us."
This initiative of the Cartagena training has, among others, the objective of preventing the Port of Cartagena from losing a significant percentage of the container traffic it generates.
In this regard, it should be remembered that, in the last municipal plenary session, 'La Trinca' voted against promoting the Los Camachos ZAL, stating that it seems blackmail to demand that the regional government subsidize companies that work with the Port of Cartagena .
Today, MC addresses the stoppage imposed on the construction of the Logistics Activities Zone of Los Camachos.
Along these lines, the deputy spokesman of the municipal group MC Cartagena, Jesús Giménez, has pointed out that "as José López affirmed yesterday, Cartagena cannot remain passive in the face of the asphyxiation strategy of the Region that San Esteban is leading."
Regarding the infrastructure deficit suffered by the Region of Cartagena, the mayor said that to avoid this isolation "we demand advances in the improvement of port services, advances that necessarily pass through the ZAL of Los Camachos".
"A project that has been delayed by regional and central governments for decades and whose viability depends exclusively on the Port Authority putting its business strategy at the service of its economic activity and not San Esteban," he explained.
For this reason, he has indicated that "it is mandatory to launch the container dump of Escombreras, as it is to begin the works of the ZAL", noting on the latter point that "the Port has much to say and everything to contribute".
Tarragona, the example to be imitated by Cartagena
In this line, he has advanced that "in the next plenary session we will claim that, following the example of Tarragona, it is agreed to finance, in addition to the Franco Deposit, the urbanization of the Los Camachos land and the future intermodal station of the latter."
In this way, Giménez has referred to the agreement signed between Puertos del Estado and the Port of Tarragona for the '2020 Business Plan of the Port' which provides for investments worth more than 150 million in the next four years.
Among the planned investments for Tarragona is the implementation of the Logistics Activities Zone with an investment that exceeds 20 million euros in order to increase the operational capacity of the Port.
Other projects for the aforementioned Catalan city, under the aforementioned agreement with Puertos del Estado, refer to the construction of the new Balears pier, as well as the creation of the Dry Port of Guadalajara - Marchamalo.
Finally, the Cartagena spokesman said that "it is ridiculous to finance the rail connection to Escombreras or the Camarillas variant and not continue the connection of goods of the ZAL", concluding that "anything else is a scam to the Cartagena and can also lead to Puertos del Estado, through the compensation fund empty the Cartagena box to finance works in Tarragona, Almeria or any other competitor, because in this Region they do not want Cartagena to breathe.
