The municipal brigades of the City of Cartagena are installing the pedestrian access ramp to the temple of Santa María de Gracia, in order to facilitate the assistance of elderly and disabled people to the traditional besapié of Christ Medinaceli, which will take place between seven in the Tomorrow and ten at night next Friday, March 6.
This religious ceremony of great popular roots will be marked this year by the councils issued from the Bishopric of Cartagena, to avoid contagion by the coronavirus.
The bishop, José Manuel Lorca, has recommended that the faithful replace the usual kiss to the image with a bow.
From the Local Police, appropriate measures have already been planned to order pedestrian and vehicle traffic through the area, given the queues that are usually recorded during the day at the entrance of the Church and for the tasks of internal demolition and shoring of the facade of a protected building on the corner of Calle del Aire with Cuatro Santos.
The celebration of this traditional Lenten event organized by the Brotherhood Marraja, dates back to Cartagena in 1933 and for a few years the City Council collaborates momentarily moving the access ramp of the Consistorial Palace to the Church of Santa María, at the request of the group itself religious, to facilitate the participation of people with reduced mobility.
