This year, the California Brotherhood, through the group of San Pedro Apóstol, celebrates the 75th anniversary of the arrival in Cartagena of the sculptural group of the Conversion of the Samaritan Woman, designed by Mr. José Sánchez Lozano.
And he does it with an exhibition in which he takes a tour of the different stages that this sculptural group has lived.
The inauguration of the 'Samaritan Exhibition' will be this Thursday, March 5, at the Molina Palace, at 7:00 p.m., an event that the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, and the deputy mayor, Manuel Padín, are expected to attend.
The sample can be visited until March 22.
SAMARITAN EXHIBITION
The exhibition begins by explaining the origins of this unusual invocation during Holy Week, coinciding with the founding of the Brotherhood itself in the 2nd half of the 18th century.
After the Civil War period, in which the work group of D. Fco. Salzillo of 1773 is lost, like the rest of the images of the California Brotherhood, the current group is in charge.
From this 2nd period (1944-1963), the star piece is the sculptural group itself, which will be exhibited with the original costumes of the Christ (newly restored), tunic and cloak (designed by Mariano Pérez Antón and embroidered by Consuelo Escámez), the old embroidered tunic of the Samaritan woman, as well as the crown of the Christ, replica of the missing one with the image of Salzillo, work by the goldsmith from Lorca, Andrés Barnés and donated by the Esteban Flores family in 2012. Photographs, as well as original belongings ( pennant, censer, rods for rods, hood and others).
In 1964, the group goes to Palm Sunday with the children's group of San Pedro.
You can see all the shrouds that have taken in procession the children's thirds of Hebrews and Samaritans.
Another section is the restoration, which through images you can see the interventions that the group of St. Peter have made on the throne, the images and their costumes.
Exceptionally, the white robe that San Pedro will wear in the Magna procession on Holy Wednesday will be exhibited, which has been restored this year.
The ajuar of the Samaritan woman is another important part of the exhibition, in which you can see a large part of her wardrobe, sayas, her jewels and different amphorae.
A select and varied set of documents of all kinds, record books, press of the time, photographs, as well as memories will be part of this documentary section.
To conclude the audiovisual 75th anniversary of the Conversion of the Samaritan, projected by José María Montoya and Francisco Escudero de Castro.
