In the presentation of the show, the Councilor for the Area of Culture, David Martnez, explained that the work was a success in Spain in the 70s, often represented by Camilo Sesto, and that later many groups in Cartagena began to represent, as the GITVA Theater Group, which premiered it in 1979. Now, 40 years later, they gather to “put a play as well known as this stage back on the stage” with the original audio of the version of Camilo Sesto.
The mayor said that "we always support amateur theater groups, because Cartagena is a land of great actors and we have to bet and help amateur groups."
For its part, the founder of the GITVA group, Jos Ros Cervantes, goes back to the beginning of the theater group, explaining that during his student stage, at the end of the 70s, he saw this work at the IES Isaac Peral and from this At the time, he took the initiative of bringing together a group of girls and boys from the parish choir, directed by Rafael Laguna, to start this project.
Jos Ros explains that the work premiered on March 24, 1979, and “since then we have always lived with the illusion of getting together some year”, that on March 24, 2019 was the date on which they met again and repeated the same picture that was taken 40 years ago, "this is where the story begins."
The director of the Theater Group, Jos Lisn, explained that when they started with this project "the oldest was 12 or 13 years old and the youngest 7, today they are all parents and grandparents."
It is a group of 80 people between amateur and technical actors.
The rock opera 'Jesus Christ Superstar' performed by the theater group has always had a great reception, the director says that last year when it premiered in the cultural week of Vista Alegre, they filled the theater with more than 2,000 spectators, which gave impulse to take her later to the Apollo El Algar Theater, to raise funds for the fight against cancer, where the armchairs were filled again.
Now in collaboration with the City of Cartagena and thanks to the fact that the New Circus Theater gives its space to this non-profit work, they get back on stage to take the show to the center of Cartagena.
The director stressed that it is worth going to see her for her wonderful assembly, staging, costumes, actors, that “nobody is going to leave indifferent” since it assures her that they have given her “a different, more classic, air work of Camilo Sesto ".
From the GITVA theater group, the collaboration of the New Circus Theater of Cartagena stands out for giving up its space to be able to represent the show.
