Cartagena is one of the municipalities with the greatest security needs on the beaches, since it has more than 100 kilometers of coastline.
Currently, the beach surveillance and rescue service for the years 2020 and 2021 is being hired.
The tender budget for this service for the next two years amounts to 2,138,297.58 euros while for 2018 and 2019 it was 1,785,230.30 euros.
In this regard, the deputy spokesman of the Municipal Group MC, Jesús Giménez, said that "we have detected an increase of 300 thousand euros and that there is a new decrease in services."
Specifically, it has drawn attention to the fact that "the ambulance that served La Manga has been removed, as well as the technician who supported the nurse. In addition, the ZEUS surveillance post and the Poniente beach station are abolished. of the Minor Islands, creating two new posts in Isla Plana and San Ginés (La Azohía) ".
Because of this, the mayor of Cartagena has explained that "it is clear that if one pays more, one should not lose a service as essential as that of an ambulance, or not increase the surveillance posts. Therefore, we will take an initiative to the Plenary so that the Government clarify this issue for us. "
"In addition, those who know the service agree that the position of ZEUS in La Manga is essential for the currents and the influx of bathers, which is expected to be higher this year due to the poor state of the Mar Menor, without forgetting that in the area of ​​the Minor Islands post that have eliminated a swimmer died in 2018, "he added.
Jesús Giménez has concluded by stating that "we hope we don't have to regret victims for these service cuts that, in addition, we pay generously, and that this is not another one of the invitations of 'La Trinca'".
