The Media Marathon of Cartagena, which was held last Sunday, March 1, celebrated its 17th Edition this year, increasing the presence of female athletes, with more than 300 runners.
At 10 in the morning the starting gun was given from the Ronda Ciudad de la Unión street (next to the UNED) where a national homologated route of 21,097 meters began, until the goal in the Municipal Athletics Track.
There were about 1,400 runners, a figure very similar to the previous year.
Counting on runners not only from the Region, but also from outside Spain with participants from France.
One of the measures taken from the City Council was to make a special design for the women's category shirt and for trophies, there was also a different trophy for the male and another for the female.
In terms of organization and safety, the competition had 350 fences and 400 cones distributed along the route.
A totally flat circuit which facilitated its comfort and safety to the participants.
The Cartagena Runtritón Club contributed around 20 volunteers throughout the race, with more than 100 volunteers working in the streets of Cartagena to guarantee this great sport party, and with around 40 police, Civil Protection and medical services.
The Marathón media had, as every year, with the collaboration of the City Council of Cartagena, and many companies and entities, highlighting the support that year after year provides the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) as sponsor of the test and the shirt of the competition.
How new this year, they had the Renacer troupe with 120 people who animated the day from the start and while the runners reached the finish line.
In addition to a mobile disc on the running track with a DJ, shows and music for attendees.
At the end everyone could enjoy a giant paella with a very cheap price of 1.50 euros.
