The high levels of suspended particles recorded during 24 hours in the measuring stations of the municipality of Cartagena, has led to the General Directorate of Environment and Mar Menor of the Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Environment of the Region of Murcia to activate the level of 3 alert, according to the Municipal Action Framework Protocol in environmental pollution episodes.
The episode coincided with the entry of air of African origin over the south of the Iberian Peninsula and the Canary Islands during Saturday, February 28.
Specifically yesterday's daily average at the stations of Mompeán, Alumbres, Escombreras Valley, and La Aljorra exceeded the allowed value of 50 micrograms per cubic meter of air for 24 hours
Aljorra: 168 µg / m3
Altitudes: 128 µg / m3
Mompean: 105 µg / m3
Escombreras Valley: 125 µg / m3
The forecasts point to maintaining the mass of air of African origin with dust in suspension on Saturday February 29 and the following days 1 and 2 March.
Given this situation, the Cartagena City Council has applied the measures contemplated in the framework protocol of municipal action in environmental pollution episodes that includes the following recommendations to the population such as:
On a preventive basis, do not perform intense physical exercise outdoors.
The lowering of the heating temperature of houses and public buildings in order to minimize energy consumption.
The sharing of the private car
Increase the use of public transport in travel.
Perform efficient driving.
Avoid as far as possible, stops and sudden starts.
Do not carry out works that involve the removal of dust, nor agricultural tasks of plowing or burning of stubble.
