The countdown of the processions begins with the 'Call' and a check of 200 thousand euros (26/02/2020)

From seven in the afternoon, the different general councils of the four brotherhoods met: Marrajos, Californio, the resurrected and the relief, to take stock and start up their organizational machinery with a view to the parades.

In entourage the four older brothers, will go later to the City Hall, to the sounds of Holy Week marches, where at 20:30 hours the mayor received them with the rest of the Corporation, to request permission from the City Hall from the main balcony to take out the processions, through the president of the Brotherhoods Board, Francisco Pagán.

Pagan has recalled that it is a tradition that has been repeated since the 16th century and that this Call was already made from the Puerta de la Villa, reaching all corners of the Historic District.

The president of the Board of Brotherhoods, has also asked for more involvement of the Cartagena and youth in the processions.

and has pointed out that in addition to the passionate parades, help to the needy is part of the internal life of the brotherhoods: men and women who work, parade and tuck their shoulders equally to make the best Holy Week, unmatched and incomparable.

During her intervention, the mayor asked for respect for Holy Week, so that another year a traditional act like the Call is celebrated.

Castejón has thanked the processionists for keeping alive our traditions that make Cartagena have the first procession in Spain, the order that characterizes them with rehearsals throughout the year.

"Thanks to all the processionists and the people of Cartagena," he concluded, "because nothing and no one is going to prevent our Holy Week from coming out," in a year that will also be able to enjoy the facade of Santa María totally of restored.

The event has ended with the invitation of the mayor to announce to the `people of Cartagena that this year there will be processions again, to the shout of“ music and the street ”.

Ediles, cofrades, processionists and citizens have then turned to the Basilica of Charity, where a traditional offering has been made to the patron saint of Our Lady of Charity.
