This Thursday, February 27 at 8:00 p.m. in El Soldadito de Plomo there will be a new meeting 'Cafes with science and thought', in which secularism and religion will be discussed.
The talk will be starring Pepe Sánchez, a member of Lay Europe in the Region of Murcia and the Republican Athenaeum.
It will be presented by Cari Blázquez, a member of the Cartagena Piensa promoter group.
This activity will reflect on the concept of secularism and religion, its origin and historical evolution.
Pepe Sánchez, will try to answer from the point of view of the Murcia Laica association to questions such as: Does secularism attack religion?
What does the Spanish Constitution say about this matter?
It will also refer to the comparison of ancient and modern societies, and to the always current debate of whether or not education is secular.
Europa Laica is a state association founded in 2001. Its headquarters are in Madrid and it has partners in all the provinces and in some European countries, also territorial groups organized in almost all the Autonomous Communities.
It is a Spanish secular association that understands by secularism the establishment of legal, political and social conditions suitable for the full development of freedom of conscience, the basis of Human Rights.
It defends ideological pluralism on an equal footing as a fundamental rule of the rule of law and the establishment of an adequate and effective legal framework that guarantees and protects it against all interference from religious institutions that imply advantages or privileges.
