Manuel Ponce López has been elected early this afternoon Processionist of the Year 2020 of the Holy Week in Cartagena.
The jury, chaired by the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, together with the president of the prize, Pedro Negroles;
the councilor of the area of ​​Culture, Equality and Youth, David Martínez;
older brothers of the brotherhoods;
Previous processionists and members of the foundation that organizes this award in collaboration with the City Council of Cartagena, have valued the dedication of Manuel Ponce to the organization and participation in the passionate parades, especially during the twelve years in which he has been president of the Virgin Marraja and as currently president of the Marraja Foundation.
During the jury session, the mayor has had an emotional memory of the figure of the president of the Processionist of the Year, Santiago Díaz Izquierdo, who died last December, since its founding 39 years ago.
After hearing the news, the new Processionist of the Year has addressed the Royal Economic Society of Friends of the Country where he has received the congratulations of the members of the jury and has offered with them, to end the traditional photo at the doors of Santa María de Grace.
The new president of the award, Pedro Negroles, has indicated that with this award Manuel Ponce has the recognition and affection of the entire jury.
For his part, Manuel Ponce has assured that representing all processionists is a pride and a responsibility that he will try to do with all his heart.
As usual for some editions, the award ceremony will take place in the lobby of the City Hall, at an event scheduled for Friday, March 27, starting at 7 pm.
The Processionist of the Year was the last of honorary appointments of the Holy Week in Cartagena that remained to be determined, along with the preacher, who will be Pedro María Ferrández García, and the Nazarene Mayor, Manoli Borrego.
The three will participate on March 26, Ash Wednesday, in the traditional Procession Call, which will take place from the main balcony of the City Hall at 8:30 p.m.
