The president of the California group of the Crowning of Thorns, Manoli Borrego Martínez, has been elected tonight Nazarene Major of the Holy Week in Cartagena 2020. The news has been communicated by telephone to the protagonist by the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón.
Manoli Borrego was at that time in his house in Torre Pacheco, where he lives, ready to come to work in Cartagena;
so it has been impossible for him to personally approach the Town Hall.
The honoree with this appointment has given her thanks and surprise to the mayor, since she was not expecting it.
The elder brothers of the four passion brotherhoods had come to the City Council just moments before to inform the mayor of the decision taken within the Board of Brotherhoods, which this year is presided by the older brother Marrajo, Francisco Pagán.
The Californian, Juan Carlos de la Cerra, has highlighted the great work that the new Nazarene major has developed for years in the heart of the red brotherhood and in its group, the Crowning of Thorns, which has experienced a considerable boom.
Manoli Borrego was elected president of the group two years ago, after having gone through several positions, such as responsible for costumes.
The Nazarene major will begin to immediately exercise her appointment during the Call of Processions that will be made from the main balcony of the City Hall on February 26, Ash Wednesday, and in the Easter Week Proclamation, where she will receive her title with the preacher Pedro María Ferrández García.
This last act will be held on Saturday, February 29 from 7 pm at the New Circus Theater.
