The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, denounced this Thursday, February 20 that the distribution of the 80 new members of the Civil Guard who have joined today in the Region is “insufficient and certainly does not cover the most basic needs of the field from Cartagena".
Castejón, has requested a meeting with the Government delegate as a matter of urgency, because despite the fact that, on paper, the fifth company of Cartagena has allocated a total of 8 civil guards, in practice 6 will work at the Corvera airport detachment, 1 to La Unión and another to the Fiscal section of the Alfonso XII Pier.
Of the troops that have been assigned to the Operations Department, one will be added to the Provincial Maritime Service.
“With this distribution, the Government Delegation has shown that it does not know at all the reality of the municipality of Cartagena.
Especially, when less than a week ago there was a neighborhood protest in Pozo Estrecho in which the citizens of our villages denounced the consequences of this flagrant lack of security, â€said the mayor.
That of last Sunday was not the first demonstration in which the neighbors, both from the field of Cartagena and the coast, have asked the Civil Guard for more effective, since all these towns are the exclusive competence of said body.
La Palma, La Aljorra, El Albujón, El Carmolí, Los Nietos or Los Urrutias have repeatedly demanded an increase in patrols, which has been reflected in the plenary sessions of the Neighborhood Boards, both for robberies in their homes and farms Agricultural and livestock.
"We are aware that in June 2019 there were 2 additions to the Cartagena Post, but they are still not enough to cover the casualties and the needs of the entire territory covered by the municipality," Castejón concluded.
