The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, has expressed her regret at Sabic's decision to close her HPP plant in the La Aljorra complex and lay off 95 workers.
"That a company in our municipality is forced to close one of its production plants is always very bad news," said the mayor, who plans to request a meeting with the company's management to learn firsthand how the dismissal of the workers will be carried out.
“Municipal services are available to these workers to help them as soon as they need.
From the Agency for Local Development and Employment we can offer advice, training and even our Placement Agency, â€explained Castejón.
The Saudi multinational Sabic announced on Tuesday that it plans to suspend the production of one of its four plants located in Cartagena at the end of June: the one dedicated to automotive thermoplastics, due to the change in demand in this sector that opts for led technologies in Ultem replacement.
The company has specified that the decision will not have a direct impact on the other three production plants in Cartagena, which will continue to operate normally.
