This weekend, Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 February, the seventh stage of the XXX Interclub Campo de Cartagena-Mar Menor is celebrated, which started last January and will end in March.
The Councilor for Sports, Diego Ortega, said Tuesday at the press conference presentation of the race, that cycling fans can approach Saturday to La Palma and Sunday to Tentegorra Park to enjoy the sports days.
The mayor thanked the sponsors and collaborators of the event, as well as the Local Police units of the different municipalities involved, and the Civil Guard that "do an impressive job", highlighting the organizational work they perform.
The president of the Cartagena Cycling Club, Diego Sánchez, explained that this year marks the 30th edition of the Interclub Campo de Cartagena-Mar Menor trophy, which "was created in 1991 as a family competition that has been growing, until it is today a benchmark in the world of amateur cycling, with the participation of runners from more than 27 teams from the Region of Murcia, Alicante and even with a team from León.The competition consists of three categories: elite, veterans and youth.
The president made mention of Juan Vera, promoter of this trophy and founder of the Cartagena Cycling Club that died last year, and therefore a minute of silence will be kept in his memory before starting the race.
After playing five stages, the classification is led by a running member of the Cartagena Cycling Club of the Cartagena Patatas Pijo team, José Manuel Cayuela, in second place at the same time, Pedro José Andújar of the Pozo Estrecho Cycling Club, and in third place , Manuel Martínez at 25 seconds.
There are three stages to be played, this Saturday 22 in La Palma, Sunday 23 in Cartagena, at 10:30 from the Tentegorra Park and Saturday 7 March in Lorca.
For his part, the secretary of the Cycling Club of Cartagena, Francisco José Diez, explained that the queen stage is the one organized by the Cycling Club Cartagena, which receives the name of queen for the mountain difficulties that it presents.
It consists of 80 kilometers with 200 participants who will visit the municipality of Cartagena, La Unión, Torre Pacheco, Fuente Álamo and Mazarrón.
