On Sunday, February 23, the Seventh Urban Solidarity Mile of Huertecica is celebrated, at the Juncos Park at 9:00 am, organized by the La Huertecica Collective Association, with the collaboration of the City Council of Cartagena.
With this event, La Huertecica wants to carry out an experience, within the preventive field, that promotes sport and healthy practice, encounter and coexistence and that fosters solidarity with the most disadvantaged people.
The event is aimed at the whole family, it is not necessary to be a professional athlete to participate.
During the presentation on Tuesday, February 18, of the event, the Deputy Mayor and Councilor of the Area of Social Welfare and Sports, Noelia Arroyo, stressed that "the important thing is not to compete, but have a good day and contribute our grain of sand to the Cause, which La Huertecica has been doing for more than 40 years in terms of prevention, treatment and insertion of people with addictions. "
The president of La Huertecica, Diego Cruzado, explained that from the beginning they planned to do an activity that conveyed that having a healthy leisure, such as sports, is good for health and to prevent people from falling into addictions.
It will be a day with many activities for adults and children to have fun: basketball, face painting, badminton, zumba, tennis ... etc.
In addition to the mile, and the last race without competition, for anyone who wants to do it more slowly or even in disguise (taking advantage of carnival dates), and of course the solidarity number “We wanted to make a family day, where we could spend it well and with that point of competition as motivation, ”he added.
In addition, the president has stressed that they collaborate with the Hidrogea company for sustainable development in Cartagena, through the H2O30 initiative, to help make the port city a benchmark in innovation and respect for the environment.
For his part, the manager of Hidrogea in Cartagena, Andrs Martnez, highlighted the “really impressive” work carried out by Huertecica and said that from Hidrogea all they want is to support this type of initiatives.
The general director of Sports, Francisco Snchez, thanked for activities such as this one in Cartagena, aimed at improving people's lives.
"We think it's great that next Sunday we can see many families together, the 1609 meters is the least, what matters is that you have got many families to tip over for wanting to have a day for sports," said the director general.

The event was also attended by the member of the sports commission of La Huertecica, Leire Garca and the entity manager, Mara Jos Cruzado.
