The Councilor for Social Services, Mercedes García Gómez, along with technicians from the Homeless and Transient Assistance Service, accompanied this Thursday, February 12, a group of volunteers from the Cartagena Red Cross, along with its President and Vice President, on her night tour of the municipality.
This entity makes two weekly departures during the Cold Wave campaign.
On this occasion, the departure was made in two vehicles equipped with blankets, coffees, juices, water, among others, to pay attention to people in situations of social exclusion who, for different reasons, are in a street situation.
It was possible to verify the result of the constant work that, throughout the year, the different social entities carry out, that make night outings throughout the week, and the Homeless and Transient Assistance Service of the City Council of Cartagena, given the small number of people who found themselves occupying ATMs or public spaces.
The Councilwoman thanked the Red Cross for the work for this and other projects that she develops in the city, highlighting the excellent work of the volunteers, since last night it was possible to verify in situ the fruit of the coordinated work of all the entities and Social Services, which is one of the greatest achievements that has been achieved for a few years to respond immediately to the basic needs of these people “we are on the right track.
This is the result of the commitment that the city council made four years ago to improve the quality of life and social welfare of the homeless. â€
