The countdown begins for the great sailing competition of the Optimist class, the Grand Trophy VOLVO 'City of Cartagena', which will be held in the bay of Cartagena between February 14 and 16, organized by the Royal Regatta Club of Cartagena (RCRC), which will have almost 140 registered sailors, belonging to eighteen nautical clubs.
The Councilor for Sports, Diego Ortega, thanked Volvo and the Sedauto Foundation for their support for the RCRC, since it is “a pioneer club in the organization of sporting events”, thanks to which Cartagena is becoming a fashionable place where highlights the double tourism-sport, highlighted the mayor.
The president of the RCRC, Jos Garca-Bravo, assured that they cannot count on better companions "to embark on this adventure" such as Volvo and the Sedauto Foundation, due to their sensitivity to sustainability, the protection of the marine environment and the security that coincide with his “essential story.” The president stressed that it is possible for Cartagena to host international sailing competitions, thus contributing to the common goal of making Cartagena a sporting and tourist reference.
For his part, the general director of Sedauto-Volvo, Ral Garca Fernndez, said they renew their commitment to sport, with Cartagena, with the sea and especially with the RCRC, “because our company has a tradition of nautical support and In sport, we are delighted with this collaboration as it is a sustainable race with environmental awareness, concluded Ral Fernndez.
The sailing vowel, Carlos Gonzlez-Costea, offered the details of the regatta, in which there will be qualifying tests on Friday from 11.30 and on Saturday from 10:30.
The final test will be held on Sunday at 10:30, and subsequently between 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. trophies will be delivered.
They will be a total of nine tests on the waters of the Bay of Cartagena, which can be seen in different places, such as from the tip of Santa Ana or the tip of the Podadera.
"This regatta is the most important in the Region of Murcia and the Mediterranean coast in the optimist class," said the sailing vowel.
He also took the opportunity to reaffirm the commitment of the RCRC with the care of the environment among the youngest, "we are going to make our motto change the tide of plastic, which implies the application of sustainable uses and practices during the race," said Gonzalez -Cost.
PARTICIPANTS
In total there are about 140 registered sailors, aged between 8 and 15 years, grouped into three categories: Sub11, Sub13 and Sub16, and from 18 yacht clubs, including clubs in the Region of Murcia, such as the Club Nautical of Los Nietos, El del Mar Menor and the Real Club de Regalas of La Ribera and Cartagena;
also of nautical clubs of the Valencian Community, among them the Nautical Club of Santa Pola, the Royal Yacht Club of regattas of Valencia and Alicante;
from the Yacht Club of Madrid and the Balearic Islands (with the greatest participation), coming from the Yacht Club of La Ràpita, the Yacht Club Cala Gamba, the Royal Yacht Club Puerto Pollença, the Maritime Club San Antonio de la Playa and the Yacht Club of San Antonio, Ibiza.
In addition, around 40 kids from nautical clubs in Poland will also participate.
The event is organized by the Real Club de Regattas de Cartagena, with Volvo and the Sedauto Foundation as a sponsor and with the collaboration of the City Council of Cartagena, the Port Authority, Maritime Captaincy and the Air Force Sewer air base.
