The III edition of the Popular Race 'Virgen del Mar' is celebrated this Saturday, February 15 with more than 7 kilometers of travel along the Gran Vía de La Manga, Almoladeras, the Paseo de la Playa de Levante, as well as the cliffs and the lighthouse of Cabo de Palos.
The race is part of one of the tests of the Running Challengue League of the Athletics Federation.
It is organized by the Association of Women "Virgen del Mar", the City Council of Cartagena, the Athletics Federation of the Region of Murcia and the City Council of San Javier and summons people of all ages and all physical abilities. It will be divided into 14 categories, from 9-year-olds to 65-year-olds, including one for people with functional diversity.
The Deputy Mayor and Councilor of the Sports Area, Noelia Arroyo, highlighted how new this year that the race takes place in the afternoon, with the aim of increasing participation, while noting that this event takes advantage of the sport as a great Family event, which allows you to enjoy the magnificent surroundings of Cabo de Palos and the sport in its fullness, “this test is one of the most attractive for its route and its family character,†concluded the vice mayor.
The president of the Association of Women Virgen del Mar, Isabel Belmonte, explained that this race emerged with the solidarity objective of helping the Association for young people and women of the Region, and in addition to enhancing the attractiveness of La Manga, so that it is known that "La Manga exists, not only lives in summer, but lives all year," added the president.
In addition, he stressed that it has been a great success to change the race to the afternoon schedule with more than 600 participants, exceeding 423 the previous year.
For its part, the sports coordinator of the City of San Javier, Antonio Pérez, pointed out that from the City Council it is a pleasure to collaborate with this type of events due to its nature of sports, solidarity and sustainability tourism enjoyed by the race.
The president of the La Manga athletics club, Norberto Martín, gave the details of the tour, which starts from the Entremares de La Manga Hotel at 5:00 p.m., with a hiking trail, to give way at 5:30 p.m. to the absolute race and the rest of the categories - benjamines, children and youth at 6:30 p.m.
With regard to the collection of bibs, it will be held on Thursday and Friday afternoon at the Stay On Sports and Saturday throughout the day at the Hotel Entremares.
Norberto stressed that both the Sports Medical Center of the City Council and the sports council will be present to ensure the safety of the route, along with the effort by the local police, and the volunteers of the IES Las Salinas, to the Department of Youth and the La Manga Athletics School, with almost 100 volunteers.
In addition, the president of the athletics club explained that awards will be given for each category, with trophies for the first three of each category, except for functional diversity that will be a unique category in the 7k Race.
There will be commemorative gifts from the sponsors to the winners, such as a long-sleeved shirt for children and for adults a large runner's bag and a Joma raincoat, unlike the traditional shirt from previous years.
How new Norberto highlighted the playroom so that all attendees can attend it.
Finally, the arrival of the tour will also be at the starting point, the Hotel Entremares, with a tasting of cheeses, sausages and crumbs and a concert and chillout area at the hotel to conclude the day of coexistence.

The registration fee is 5 euros for children and 12 for adults and the economic benefit of the race will go to projects of the Association of Women "Virgen del Mar".
The deadline to sign up for the test ends on Tuesday, February 11 at 9:00 p.m.
