About 20 operators of the Department of Infrastructure and Coastline have begun reinforcement work, with municipal machinery, to continue with the maintenance and cleaning of the beaches of the Cartagena coast, especially, condition the sand and remove the seaweed of posidonia dragged by the sea.
The deputy mayor and head of the municipal commission of the Mar Menor, Noelia Arroyo, explained that “during the previous weeks they have been working to improve the promenades and the walls, removing the sand accumulated after the storms, and intensifying the cleaning in the streets close to the beaches, especially in La Manga where the blizzard Gloria hit with greater intensity ”.
At present, “the cleaning works are focusing on the beaches of Punta Brava, Los Nietos, Cala Reona and beaches of the Mediterranean Sea, since from the area of Playa Paraso to Cala del Pino, the maintenance of the sand they finished last week, just like on the Levante beach in Cabo de Palos. ”
Specifically, in the area of Punta Brava, operators and a beach cleaning machine are acting on the sand and removing the algae, where 70 tons have accumulated so far, for later transfer to the landfill.
Previously, after the storm, we proceeded to manually clean the promenade and the walls.
Los Nietos, the municipal brigades, with a shovel tractor and a truck, are carrying out maintenance work in the west, on the Arenal beach, pending the authorization of Costas to proceed with the removal of algae with machinery .
Next week this machinery will move to Los Urrutias beach to continue cleaning.
At the same time, in coordination with Costas, the wall of the promenade of Los Nietos that was damaged after the storm is being repaired.
On the beach of Cala Reona, the beach cleaning machine is working to condition the beach and later, it will be moved to the La Manga area to reinforce the cleanliness of the beaches.
Costas is expected to begin next week to repair the two sinkholes that made the storm Gloria in the area of Cala Reona.
On the beaches of La Manga del Mediterrneo, this week the manual maintenance work on the promenades and the streets near the beach was completed, and at the moment, the rest of the municipal operators are working on cleaning the pedestrian accesses through the catwalks, as well as in the maintenance of the arena.
These works will continue next week.
In addition, it must be remembered that the municipal machinery continues to work on the plan to collect algae on the shore to protect the sand, which has allowed the protection of the beach and that the vast majority of algae has returned to the sea.
