The XXII Comedy Contest of La Palma will start with a play by the Children's Theater Group (05/02/2020)

The Cultural Association "Now Theater" of La Palma has been promoting culture in the region of Cartagena for twenty-two years through the La Palma Comedy Contest, which this year will take place from February 15 to March 1 at the Civic Center of The Palm.

The special delegate of Culture, Carlos Piñana, stressed that this event grows every year in public assistance from all over the national geography, both for the quality of the works and for the economic prices they offer, exceeding 2,000 in the previous edition spectators

"Good humor is guaranteed in all works," said Piñana.

The director of the contest, Francisco Rodríguez, explained the programming that starts on Saturday, February 15 with the play “General Essayâ€, written and directed by Raquel Torres, pointing out as a novelty the initiative to incorporate the Children's Theater Group, in collaboration with the Municipal Theater School of Cartagena, where children will be able to perform within the comedy contest.

Secondly, a review will be made towards the great actor from Cartagena, Isidoro Máiquez, on the 200th anniversary of his death and a theater improvisation show by the actors, Javi Soto and Joselu Cremades.

Rodriguez stressed that they include the review because they want Máiquez to be very present in the culture of Cartagena, "he has been the best Spanish actor of all time."

In addition, the director pointed out that as each year they will carry out a charity, in this case the proceeds will go to Cáritas that is planning to carry out at least one function.

Subsequently, the contest phase begins on Friday, February 21 with the finalist “What this coffee lasts!†By Bonjour mon amour (Cartagena) productions, by the author Martín Giner and under the direction of Pedro Segura. It continues on Saturday 22 with the comedy “Mamaaaá !!â€

from the Fénix Teatro de Zamora group, and concludes this phase on Sunday, February 23, with the play “El landó de tresorses†by the Theater of the Slaughterhouse of Murcia.

For its part, the association takes to the stage the play "There come the Calatravos" by Jaime Cross, on February 28, a comedy inspired by the 16th century in the historic lower Aragon.

The author and director has explained that he takes as a reference what the actors are enjoying when rehearsing this work, “if they have fun, the public will have funâ€.

Finally, the actress and member of the board of directors of the association, Maite Ramos, explained that tickets can be obtained through the website or by phone 639715364 (Maite) and 627439149 (Lola).

The price is 7 euros per work and there is a bonus that includes 5 works for 20 euros.
