Adif has already sent the project for the integral remodeling of the train station of the port city to the City of Cartagena.
The project, whose budget amounts to almost 6 million euros, consists of completely rehabilitating the passenger building, the reorganization of the environment, as well as the installation of a new marquee on the platform, with solar energy collection.
As Mayor Ana Belén Castejón explained, “I have already given the appropriate instructions to Urban Planning to issue the mandatory report and to tender the work as soon as possible.
As you will remember in March of last year, the Secretary of State for Development, Pedro Saura, presented us with the preliminary draft and, if everything continues as planned, the works could be awarded in the autumn ”.
The work planned inside the building aims to redistribute and order the waiting spaces, the ticket sales area, the toilets, the cafeteria and the car rental office, including, in addition, a new information and attention space to the traveler.
Similarly, it is planned to create new areas for workers, such as changing rooms, rest room, area for security personnel and warehouse.
The design also reflects that the most characteristic elements, such as the wooden ceiling and modernist lamps, will be preserved.
The project also includes the restoration of the stained glass window of the main facade, as well as the original tile and masonry.
As for the exterior, a new car park will be built next to the north facade of the building and the spaces for taxi and bus stops will be reordered, with new trees.
"The rehabilitation of our emblematic train station has been designed to value the quality of our architectural and railway heritage, as well as improve both the accessibility and comfort of travelers," said the mayor.
