Cartagena has a program of activities for people with disabilities, prepared from the Unit of People with Disabilities of the Department of Social Services of the City Council, in which 15 entities of the municipality have collaborated.
Among its objectives is to make the entities themselves visible, disseminate their activities and invite citizens to participate in them.
The program was presented this morning by the Councilor for Social Services, Mercedes García, and the representative of the Association of Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome of Cartagena (Afibrocar), Flori Galindo
In this first quarter, from January to March, up to a hundred will be carried out, highlighting its great variety, among which are: leisure workshops, active health schools, collaborative walks, pilates workshops, group psychotherapy sessions , schools for families, meetings of experiences and affected, playroom, informative talks, hiking, swimming, bobbin ...
This is another commitment of the municipal government to work for a more supportive and inclusive city, especially with people with disabilities.
The Councilor for Social Services, Mercedes García, said that "from the Department will continue to put all the necessary effort to achieve a more fair and participatory society," also said that "through the activities presented are intended to eliminate the communication, physical and social barriers that people with disabilities have to face, so they can freely choose those they want to make. "
The programmed activities have various benefits, both physical and cognitive, as well as emotional and social, since they combat stress, help in learning and improve skills, as well as to promote self-esteem and live together in freedom and respect.
Precisely, to promote respect, special emphasis is placed on the talks that will take place in schools so that from a young age they learn to live with disabilities in a normal way.
All activities arise due to the need for support for people with disabilities and family and the lack of means that occurs on certain occasions.
The representative of the Association of Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome of Cartagena (Afibrocar), Flori Galindo, thanked the City Council for this program that "serves to show citizens all activities that are carried out and expected, on behalf of the entities, to be able to reach most of the population.
