Due to the trajectory of the “Cartagena Libre de Rumores” municipal strategy, implemented in the municipality since March 2017, and the consolidation of work with young people within it, this weekend took place at the Municipal Hostel of Canteras the first training to obtain the certificate of "Antirumor Agent".
The purpose is the improvement of coexistence and social cohesion, as well as the elimination of rumors and false information about the population of foreign origin, since they generate a stereotyped image of said collective.
This program is also carried out in other Spanish cities and has the support of the Council of Europe.
The work aimed at young people is a priority line of action in Cartagena, hence a Group of Young Volunteers linked to this strategy.
A total of 37 young people participated in the "Agent Antirumor" course, aged between 16 and 25, from the volunteer group of "Cartagena Free of Rumors", intercultural centers for young people, childhood council and adolescence of Cartagena, as well as social entities and councils belonging to the motor group of the anti-rumor strategy.
The professionals responsible for training the new agents have been an educator and two monitors of the Immigration Unit.
The welcome to the participants took place on Friday 24, by the delegate of Social Services, Mercedes Garca.
These young people have worked four training modules dealing with topics such as stereotypes, prejudices, discrimination, rumorology, as well as communication strategies and skills.
All this, focused on training as an antirumor agent, whose objective is to try to deactivate the rumors that circulate in their environment about people of foreign origin, using effective arguments and putting into practice listening and communication attitudes that promote constructive dialogues.
