Due to the changes that have been taking place in the Cartagena society since the Municipal Registry of Non-Marriage Unions was created in 1995, the City Council of Cartagena has launched the dossier for the elaboration of the Regulation of the Municipal Registry of unmarried couples, opening the period of one month to obtain the opinion and suggestions of those affected, from January 23 to February 24.
Once this period of citizen consultation has ended and the opinion of the interested parties has been received, the Draft Regulation will be prepared and, taking into account that it affects the legitimate rights and interests of the people, it will be published on the corresponding web portal and an audience will be given to those affected, finally being the local government board, who decides after deliberation.
With this initiative, it is intended to respond to the new legal situations generated by the demands of the applicants, increasing among them the number of foreigners of different nationalities registered in the municipality.
This had caused the regulation to be outdated in regard to the rights of foreigners and their legal status in the country.
In addition, on the occasion of the entry into force, in 2018, of the Law of De facto Couples of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, which creates a single registry in the autonomous area, it was necessary to adopt measures to avoid duplication in the registration of de facto couples and maintain cooperative relations between both public administrations.
Remember that the term of citizen consultation of the regulation ends on February 24.
