This Saturday, January 25, the Glass Museum of Santa Lucia opens its doors to Cartagena Piensa at 11:30 to offer a demonstration of the main artisan techniques in the elaboration and in the second life of glass, under the title "Masters of glass: giving new life to glass ", thanks to the collaboration of the Association of Glass Craftsmen of Saint Lucia.
The third-generation glassmaker, Manolo Gil, and the glass maker and artisan, Monica Elche, will show the public how recycled glass is transformed into objects of art.
We throw many objects in the trash without even wondering how much it has cost to create them and what story is behind them.
What about the glass we recycle?
Normally it becomes silicon to cover pavements.
And there are so many things that can be done from a glass bottle!
People should be aware of the value of what surrounds us.
We live in a society so highly accustomed to industrial products, manufactured in series, that we have no attachment for them.
And it is a shame, because when one surrounds oneself with objects that bring back memories and evoke pleasant sensations, one feels peace and harmony.
The technique, care and affection that an artisan puts into creating any of his products provides a unique character to the creation, being able to transform industrial objects into objects with soul.
In Cartagena, although the craft of glass supported hundreds of families from 1834 to 1955 with the Crystal Factory of Santa Lucia, today, it remains alive in the hands of a few artisans in the Region.
The demonstration of the main artisan techniques in the elaboration of a piece of glass, will allow to present and value this local trade, highlighting the possibilities offered by an infinitely recyclable material.
