The Vice Mayor of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo, has held a meeting this week with representatives of the yacht clubs and regattas of the municipality of Cartagena to advance the design of the Municipal School of Nautical and Aquatic Activities, which the Government wants to launch to promote sea sport among schoolchildren.
The project, which is in the drafting phase, will begin with a pilot experience aimed at specific centers that allow evaluating the offer and improving it to progressively extend it to all the centers in Cartagena, as explained by Arroyo.
The municipal school will provide a first approximation of schoolchildren to water sports and bring them closer to the clubs where they can develop that hobby.
“We have two seas, we are one of the municipalities with the most coastline in Spain and, nevertheless, we have no structure formed to bring schoolchildren all the nautical activities that take place in Cartagena,” said Noelia Arroyo at the meeting where she has explained that the intention of the municipal government is to "launch the Municipal School of Nautical and Nautical Activities" so that Cartagena school children come into contact with sea sports.
The vice mayor said that "we must take advantage of the talent that sailors and professionals have linked to clubs that succeed in competitions around the world and bring it closer to school sports," so the goal is to design a model and "incorporate it in a way progressive in all schools to value this uniqueness that Cartagena has ”.
The project also plans to integrate swimming, due to its advantages as a sport and as a prerequisite for safety to access contact with other sea activities.
