Cartagena is preparing for the arrival of the carnival, which is celebrated from February 14 to 25, with a calendar full of activities that includes chirigotas, choreographies and dances, "a carnival not to get bored", which every year many people from outside attend and within the region to see these shows, the result of the year-round work.
This was stated by the Councilor for Festivities, Juan Pedro Torralba, during the presentation today, Tuesday, January 21, of this year's program, where he was accompanied by the president of the Carnival, Carmen Sánchez, and the vice president, Eduardo Pignatelli.
The councilor stressed that this year they hope to continue moving forward with a consolidated government so that the Cartagena Carnival is declared a Festival of National Tourist Interest.
For its part, the president of the Carnival Federation, Carmen Sánchez, said that "the carnival is going forward, stomping," while explaining that "we only have seven ads left to be declared of National Tourist Interest."
This year, the Carnival starts on February 14, at 5:30 p.m., with the Carnival Welcome Parade from the Plaza Alcolea, which will tour the main streets and squares of the city such as Calle del Carmen, Plaza del Icue , Gates of Murcia, Plaza de San Sebastián, Calle Mayor and Plaza del Ayuntamiento.
At the end of the parade, attendees can enjoy a fireworks show.
That same day the election gala of the Infantile Queen and her Ladies is celebrated at the Wssell de Paimón de Guimbarda Sports Center at 9:00 p.m.
The big day of the carnival is Saturday, February 15 with the celebration of the Cry of the Carnival 2020 at the Central Sports Pavilion Wssell de Guimbarda at 9:00 p.m. and with the Gala of choice of the Queen of the Carnival of Cartagena and her ladies , which has eight candidates from the troupes.
The preacher this year will be the councilor of the Area of ​​Culture, Youth and Equality, David Martínez.
The vice president of the carnival, Eduardo Pignatelli, has stated that it is a pride for the federation to have him as a preacher, “we have a special affection for him, his work and his support in the carnival has been from the beginning, he was the great promoter of the Drag Gala and has also supported us in all acts. â€
On Sunday, February 16 at 1:00 p.m., the Vermouth Dance is held in the Plaza San Francisco with the Piku Group and the Performance of the dance body of the Modernist Cultural Association of Cartagena de Levante with a masquerade ball.
Then there will be two passes in the morning to enjoy children's choreography groups, and in the afternoon two passes for adult choreography groups, which will enjoy a large influx of attendees with tickets sold out early.
On Monday, February 17, the Draqueens gala takes place, which consolidates its fifth consecutive year, with 12 candidates from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Madrid, Barcelona and Extremadura and will feature the Sevillian singer, Manu Tenorio, to liven up the event.
The next day, Tuesday, February 18, the events continue with the group parades touring the city to encourage and prepare people for the chirigotas.
And on Wednesday and Thursday the chirigotas semifinals are held in the auditorium of El Batel.
The vice president of the carnival, Eduardo Pignatelli, highlighted the flood of requests they have received to see the chirigotas, and therefore they have created a bonus of 12 euros so that everyone can see the semifinals on February 19 and 20.
On Friday, February 21 at 8:00 p.m. the Grand Final of Chirigotas takes place with two passes: at 8:00 p.m. the first pass takes place and at 8:30 p.m. the second pass.
On Saturday, February 22, the chirigotas perform again at 12:00 in the Plaza del Icue and at 6:00 pm the Grand Carnival Parade 2020 takes place, which starts from the Alameda de San Antón and ends in the Plaza del Town hall.
Subsequently, there will be a concert with live music at 22:00 in the Plaza San Francisco and the awards ceremony to both local and foreign troupes.
On February 23 at 12:00 in the Plaza Juan XXIII the Children's Carnival takes place and again performance of the chirigotas in the Plaza San Francisco.
The vice president said that this year the chirigotas stand out because "we believe it is a show that must be enhanced because many people are left without seeing them."
On Monday, February 24, the parade of choreographic groups of the Carnival of Cartagena for children and adults takes place at 6:00 p.m.
Finally, on Tuesday, February 25, the Grand Pasacalles de Don Carnal, which is consolidated this year, which leaves at 7:00 p.m., from the Town Hall Square to the Municipal Pavilion where the awards ceremony will take place and will take place the Farewell of Don Carnal.
As news of this year, the vice president of the federation stressed that the carnival continues to grow and that this year between adult groups, children, groups outside, comparsas of our elders, will be a total of 77 groups that make up this year's carnival.

The Carnival Federation has made negotiations with the company JN Global Proyect, which will be part of the jury and will be responsible for the election of the Mister Gay Pride Spain.
This gala will be attended by Juan Martín Botín and Nano García Gil, directors of the company and the Mister Gay España 2019 contest and with the presence of Zabdiel Gonzalez, Mister Gay Pride España 2019.
