This Saturday, January 18, the official inauguration of the restored facade of the Santa María de Gracia church took place, with the Blessing of the Facades and the Four Saints, the delivery of the time box and the flipping of the bells, acts that developed throughout the afternoon.
They were attended by the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, the vice mayor, Noelia Arroyo, the deputy mayor, Manuel Padín, the councilors of the government team David Martínez, María Casajús and María Amoraga, as well as the mayors of the municipal corporation José López, Jesús Giménez and María del Pilar Garcia.
The Minister of Education and Culture, Esperanza Moreno and the President of the Port Authority, Yolanda Muñoz, also attended.
Subsequently, the Solemn Eucharist was presided over by the Bishop of Cartagena, José Manuel Lorca and concelebrated by the Auxiliary Bishop, Sebastián Chico and the Archbishop Emeritus of Burgos, Francisco Gil.
During the Mass, the Tomás Luis de Victoria Coral Mass intervened and the end of work document was delivered.
Remember that the celebrations began on Thursday with a series of events organized by the parish, with a Solemn Eucharist in honor of San Fulgencio and a concert by the Sauces Musical Association of Cartagena.
Already on Friday, the Blessing and Touch of the Matraca took place, which was followed by a conference by the architects Juan de Dios de la Hoz and Luis de la Hoz.
RESTORATION OF THE FACADE
The City Council of Cartagena has contributed to the financing of the restoration of the main and lateral facades of the church of Santa María de Gracia with 300,000 euros.
The total budget amounts to 1,085,587 euros, the Bishopric will contribute 485,587 euros and the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia with another 300,000 euros.
The project to rehabilitate the facades of the church of Santa María de Gracia includes the recovery of the original brick and part of the walls, cornices and decorations also executed in brick.
The side facade of San Miguel Street has also been restored and covered decorative elements in relief.
