Yesterday, Friday, January 17, the activities of the Classroom of Culture and Nature of the Sea began. These are conferences organized by the Marchamalo Association, which will deal with issues of Maritime Heritage and Sustainable Development.
The presentation was held by the general director of Fisheries, Agricultural Production, Livestock and Marine Environment, Francisco Espejo, who was accompanied by other representatives of the Councilor for Social Services of the City of Cartagena, Mercedes Garca ..
Subsequently, the inaugural conference was held, entitled “New destinations: the Roman wreck of the Bou Ferrer (Villajoyosa).
Underwater Archeology as cultural tourism ”, taught by doctors Carlos de Juan and Jos Antonio Moya, in the development center of the Hostel Subup, located in Cabo de Palos.
This project is funded by the Local Action Group of Fisheries and Aquaculture of the Region of Murcia, GALPEMUR, a non-profit organization collaborating with the Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Autonomous Community, which includes several city halls, including that of Cartagena.
THE CLASSROOM OF CULTURE AND NATURE OF THE SEA
The Classroom will take place on Saturdays at 12:00 hours in the months of January, February and March.
The activities include interesting conferences about natural and cultural heritage, the values of fishing (its present and its future), new tourist models and new social and cultural projects.
But also, there will be talks at the foot of the place, with the help of different experts;
in Calblanque, in the coves of Cabo de Palos, in its archaeological and architectural environment, and even a guided boat trip to the Marine Reserve.
The headquarters and starting point of all activities will be the facilities of the SubUp Hostel in Cabo de Palos.
MARCHAMALO ASSOCIATION
Marchamalo is a non-profit association, whose objectives are precisely to promote projects that contribute to sustainable development and social regeneration of the environment.
Therefore, they have launched an expert meeting program and dissemination of this heritage from an interdisciplinary point of view.
The Classroom of Culture and Nature of the Sea, also aims at the revitalization of Cabo de Palos, an almost inactive enclave in the winter months.
And its inclusion as a point of reference, where the different points of view around the protection and valorization of a unique cultural landscape are brought together.
