The Councilor for Health, Manuel Padín, has taken advantage today of the celebration of the traditional baptism of animals for the festival of San Antón to remind the regional government that it is still waiting for the development of the regulation on the application of the Animal Welfare Law that You must guide the municipal ordinances in this matter.
“We are going to demand those budget items that help to implement the Law not only to this town hall, but to all those in the Region, who are asking for the same thing, whatever their color: that coherent items be contemplated in order to functionâ€, said the mayor.
However, the councilor stressed that from his area they are already working on local regulations.
"We do not wait any longer for the regulations to come out, since public health is part of the day-to-day life of citizens and this happens because animal welfare is taken care of," said the head of Health, who has emphasized the need for regulate, among other issues, feral colonies, as established by current legislation.
The mayor has also stressed that this necessary regulation should include the development of the Animal Welfare Office, a service that is claimed from the local government.
It is a specialized municipal department attached to the Department, in order to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations in relation to animal protection and welfare, as well as to promote the responsible possession of pets in the citizenship.
In this regard, the councilor has indicated that they are working on the internal structure of the service to carry out this initiative.
Finally, Padín recalled that the new tender for the Center for the Reception and Treatment of Domestic Animals (CATAD) is "a matter of days."
"The sheet is ready to take it out and that companies can opt for the management of the center," said the mayor, who added that the new sheet "does not seek to criticize the management that has been carried out in the center, but that was necessary to adapt the service to the new Law and any company could present for the new contract â€.
In this regard, the councilor also wanted to highlight "the great collaboration we have and we plan to continue having animalist groups", to whom he thanked "their cooperation, their patience and their understanding for the welfare of animals."
