Comprehensive recovery and conservation project 'has been the first event held in the new Museum of the Roman Forum of Cartagena, which will be inaugurated in a few months.
With this, we wanted to show the completion of the civil works of this new exhibition space, financed by the Repsol Foundation, and which will open its doors once the placement of the various pieces and panels that will shape its museological discourse is finished.
The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, explained that "the facilities of the new museum are finished, in the absence of assembling the museum discourse through its pieces and archaeological collections, what is being worked on to make it a reality soon" .
As for the book, which includes the integral project of recovery and conservation of the Barrio del Foro Romano, the editor of the copy and professor of the University of Murcia, José Miguel Noguera has expressed that "the work comes to account in writing and graphically of works and investigations, and it is an appraisal of the Sanctuary of Isis and Serapis, which is in an exceptional state of conservation and that helps rebuild the religious topography of the ancient Roman colony. "
The publication has been promoted by the City Council of Cartagena, with the collaboration of the consortium of Puerto de Culturas, the financing of the Repsol Foundation and the Ministry of Science, and the edition of the University of Murcia.
During the presentation, the deputy director of institutional relations of the Repsol Foundation, Arantza Hernanz, said that "from the foundation, cultural and scientific support will continue to be given in the places that Repsol operates to strengthen the link it has with these environments."
For its part, the Coordinator of Publications and Digital Heritage of the University of Murcia, Rosana López Carreño, has highlighted "the editorial quality of the book and the symbolism it presents for Spanish and international archeology as documentary heritage, as it contains a detailed study of the Sanctuary Isis and Serapis, in addition to the cataloging of the pieces found, and simulations and interpretations of the spaces, through 170 color pages ".
The rector of the University of Murcia, José Luján, wanted to emphasize that this book "comes to provide knowledge and entertainment."
"It is the clear example of a book that is needed to transfer knowledge acquired through research to citizens," said the regional secretary of Culture of the Region of Murcia, Juan Antonio Lorca.
BOOK THE SANCTUARY OF ISISI AND SERAPIS, MOLINETE / CARTAGENA
The volume contains a detailed archaeological study of the sanctuary of Isis and Serapis of the Roman colony of Carthago Nova, as well as its conservation and value work.
His scientific edition is in the name of José Miguel Noguera, Andrés Cánovas, María José Madrid and Izaskun Martínez.
In addition, the book collaborates with members of the archaeological park team and various renowned researchers, such as Joaquín Ruiz de Arbulo (Professor of Archeology at the Rovira i Virgili University of Tarragona), Juan Manuel Abascal (Professor of Ancient History of the University from Alicante), Patrizio Pensabene (Professor of Archeology at the University of Rome La Sapienza), Antonio Pizzo (Deputy Director of the Spanish School of History and Archeology of Rome, CSIC) and Valentino Gasparini (Researcher at the University Juan Carlos I of Madrid) .
The edition is bilingual (Spanish / English) in order to contribute to the international dissemination of the sanctuary.
ISIS SANCTUARY
The sanctuary is one of the best testimonies of the dissemination in Hispania of the Egyptian cults of Egyptian origin, which was excavated and recovered between 2015 and 2017 thanks to a performance promoted by the City of Cartagena, executed by Cartagena Puerto de Culturas and funded by the Repsol Foundation.
This action is part of the project of the Archaeological Park of Molinete.
