Education has launched this course six new dining rooms in the Region
The Ministry of Education and Culture has launched two new school canteens in the municipality of Cartagena that serve 130 students at the Feliciano Sánchez and José María Lapuerta centers.
With these two new openings, throughout the municipality there are already 26 schools that have the dining room service, which serves about 1,500 students daily, in addition to those who occasionally use the service.
The Minister of Education and Culture, Esperanza Moreno, visited today the facilities of the new dining room of the José María Lapuerta center, where he stressed that with the launch of the two new dining rooms in Cartagena, "the demand of the centers and families is met , in addition to providing, as a complementary educational service, the provision of the necessary support for the reconciliation of work and family life. "
With these two new school canteens in Cartagena centers, the Ministry has put into operation this course a total of six.
The above are located in the José Marín schools of Cieza;
San Pío X, of Murcia;
Our Lady of Las Mercedes, from Puebla de Soto (Murcia);
and Our Lady of the Incarnation, of La Raya (Murcia).
"Nearly half of the centers in the Region already have this service in this school year, which reaches the number of 234 dining rooms that serve some 20,000 students," said the counselor.
The investment made for the implementation of this course of the six dining rooms amounts to 230,000 euros which, together with the acquisition of equipment necessary for the operation of the rest of the dining rooms in the Region, has meant an investment of more than 300,000 euros.
The number of students in the canteen service has also increased in centers that do not have a sufficient number of diners to have their own school canteen, so due to proximity to other centers they share the school canteen service, as is the case in the case of San Pedro del Pinatar, in which Las Lgrimas school offers service to other centers in the municipality.
Or also in Cartagena, where Vicente Ros School welcomes students from the Cuatro Santos School in its dining room;
and the San Isidoro school in El Algar, attended by the students of the Virginia Pérez school.
According to Moreno, "this is a way to monetize the complementary service, so demanded, which in turn reinforces the cooperation between the different centers and their respective school communities."
For the next course, the Ministry of Education and Culture will continue with the implementation of new dining rooms in schools throughout the Region, thus responding to the demand of the centers themselves to offer this service to all families who may need it .
According to the forecasts of the Ministry, during the 2020-2021 academic year, a dozen school centers would begin to provide dining services.
On the other hand, the counselor recalled that the Community allocates a budget of almost four million euros to dining aid, "which means that about 5,000 schoolchildren can benefit from these grants."
