'El barberillo de Lavapiés' is represented this Friday, January 10 (9:00 p.m.), at the El Batel Auditorium.
A work by Luis Mariano de Larra and Francisco Asenjo Barbieri full of conspiracy and social criticism, staged by the Association Friends of the Zarzuela of Cartagena.
The Cartagena association brings us this work, one of the most important within the zarzuela genre, with the participation of a large cast of artists.
They all give life to a plot of two love stories, surrounded by conspiracy and social criticism.
In total two sopranos, a tenor, two baritones and a choir composed of about forty singers will be on stage, who will be accompanied by an orchestra of twenty-three musicians.
'El barberillo de Lavapiés' is a libretto by Luis Mariano de Larra with music by the composer Francisco Asenjo Barbieri.
The action of the work takes place during the reign of Carlos III, after the riot of Esquilache.
The plot tells two love stories: one of commoners, that of Paloma and Lamparilla, and another of nobles, that of Marquesita and Don Luis.
All this surrounded by a climate of conspiracy, not exempt from mischief and social criticism.
These stories intersect and intermingle with scenes of manners.
The representation takes place in three different places: the Romería de San Eugenio, the Madrid neighborhood of Lavapiés and a street in the city of Toledo.
