'Plan against housing theft'
The Civil Guard detains two experienced criminals for a dozen robberies in homes in Los Nietos-Cartagena
These are two neighbors of the Cartagena neighborhood that allegedly acted intermittently since 2018
They selected uninhabited homes that were accessed by stopover
They seized household goods and other valuables that were easy to transport
The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia, in the framework of the operation 'Exiguo', has arrested two experienced criminals as alleged perpetrators of a dozen thefts in vacation homes in Los Nietos-Cartagena.
These robberies were being investigated by the Civil Guard since 2018, the date on which the first robberies were reported, which have intermittently lasted until last December, the date on which the alleged perpetrators have been arrested.
The proceedings began when the Civil Guard opened an investigation aimed at clarifying the commission of several robberies with force in vacation homes in Los Nietos-Cartagena.
At the time of theft, the homes were uninhabited, being summer homes.
In each of the criminal scenarios, agents specialized in Prevention of Citizen Security practiced the corresponding eye inspections, which allowed determining the concordance in the modus operandi used to access the homes, generally, by means of the stopover to terraces or upper balconies where they were introduced after breaking the doors or windows.
The study of the obtained evidence allowed to know that, although the robberies had been committed intermittently, all of them were concentrated in the same geographical area, which attracted the attention of the researchers who focused the investigations on the surveillance and investigation of known criminals, settled in the municipality, who were suspected of using their extensive knowledge of the environment to act quickly and efficiently.
Recently, the Civil Guard has developed the exploitation phase of Operation 'Exiguo' with the location and detention of two male individuals, aged 23 and 45;
and of Spanish nationality as presumed authors of at least a dozen robberies with force in housing.
According to the investigation, the detainees, after carrying out surveillance tasks, selected their objectives and chose the least visible and safest areas to access without being seen.
Once inside the buildings, they seized any valuables that were easy to transport and later sold through the 'black' market.
Despite residing in Los Nietos, they had other homes in nearby districts, to which they moved for a reasonable time after committing robberies, to try to go unnoticed.
The arrested and the proceedings have been made available to the Court of Instruction of Cartagena.
