On Friday, January 10 at 9:00 p.m., the Municipal Auditorium El Batel de Cartagena will host the representation of the zarzuela 'El barberillo de Lavapiés' by the lyrical-cultural association Amigos de la Zarzuela de Cartagena, with the collaboration of the Department of Culture of the City Council of Cartagena.
The event was presented this Wednesday by the Councilor for Culture of Cartagena, Carlos Piñana, who has been accompanied by the president of the Association of Friends of the Zarzuela of Cartagena, Rafael Bueno, and one of the members of the Board of Directors of the association, José María Vázquez.
'The barberillo of Lavapiés' is “one of the most important works within the zarzuela genre,†said Piñana, who also highlighted the work of the Friends of the Zarzuela Association of Cartagena, “a cultural institution of our city, which It demonstrates the values ​​of effort, work, dedication, affection and love with which you do things. â€
Hence the support that the City Council gives to this artistic collective of the municipality.
For his part, the president of the Association of Friends of the Zarzuela of Cartagena, Rafael Bueno, pointed out the importance of the cast of artists involved in the work, two sopranos, a tenor, two baritones and a choir of about 40 people who It will be accompanied by 23 musicians.
He also explained the argument, the work takes place in the reign of Carlos III, after the riot of Esquilache.
In this context, two love stories are told: one of commoners and one of nobles.
“It takes place at a time when there were many conspiracies, a lot of mischief and many comments about governments.
Anything they did was criticized, whether it was good or bad.
Actually, I would say that it resembles a little what is going on today, â€says Rafael Bueno.
The original work is by Francisco Asenjo Barbieri and Luis Mariano de Larra, son of Mariano José de Larra, 17th-century writer and journalist, as José María Vázquez recalled.
In addition, he defined the genre of zarzuela as "the living people taken to the stage".
This representation takes place in three different places: the Romería de San Eugenio, the Madrid neighborhood of Lavapies and a street in the city of Toledo.
Regarding the cast of actors and actresses, there will be people with a lot of experience in the tables, such as Pablo Monteagudo, Blanca Luca de Tena, Pepe Sáez or Conchita Gálvez, among others.
