The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón has been in charge of inaugurating, on Thursday, December 12, the Forum on Circular Economy organized by La Verdad and the COEC in the Auditorium and Congress Hall Municipal El Batel de Cartagena.
This conference cycle aims to discuss how more sustainable, clean and respectful production models can be developed with the planet, due to a lower generation of waste and a decrease in the use of raw materials.
The inauguration of the forum has also been attended by the director of the newspaper La Verdad, Alberto Aguirre de Cárcer, and the president of the Confederation of Business Organizations of Cartagena, Ana Correa.
The first mayor of the city, Ana Belén Castejón, wanted to highlight in her inaugural address that the City Council of Cartagena has promoted different initiatives regarding circular economy.
On the one hand, he recalled that the Consistory has a chair with the Polytechnic University of Cartagena on infrastructure in which these aspects are being addressed.
In addition, he wanted to remember that in the program agreement of the Municipal Government for the present legislature, an initiative is included in which it will collaborate with the Port of Cartagena so that companies adapt to the circular economy.
"We have to be able to reuse and convert waste, by reusing raw material and that we all be able to reach the objectives of the 2030 Agenda" said the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón.
This Forum on Circular Economy is organized by the newspaper La Verdad.
Its director, Alberto Aguirre de Cárcer, affirms that today there is no national strategy on circular economy.
"That has made the circularity rate to measure to what extent we are achieving those objectives, because it is lower than it should in Spain."
Along the same lines, the president of COEC, Ana Correa, has shown that companies have to change the linear economy with which they have been working for a circular economy.
“Not only from the point of view that it is a necessity because it is being demanded from us by society or by the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations, but also because we are talking about an emerging activity that generates employment, wealth, and our own conviction.
Entrepreneurs are also citizens and we are part of society. â€
Companies such as Mercadona, Disfrimur and institutions such as the City Council of Cartagena or the Institute of Promotion of the Region of Murcia are betting on the circular economy, according to the organizers of the event.
