The Department of Urban Planning of the City of Cartagena has granted the work and activity license for the expansion of the lubricant plant that Ilboc owns in the Escombreras Valley.
In fact, on July 18 of this year, the Consistory sent to the General Directorate of the Environment the request to start the environmental impact assessment, which was approved by the Autonomous Community on November 8.
The project has a material execution budget of 25,158,136 euros, although the total investment will amount to about 47 million euros.
This means an income for the City Council for the Tax on Constructions and Works (ICIO) of one million euros.
The follow-up of this file has been carried out by the mayor herself, Ana Belén Castejón, as it is one of the major investments of this legislature.
“Thanks to this investment of almost 60 million euros, the plant that Ilboc has in Cartagena will become a leader in the production of high-quality lubricants, taking into account that it already exports 40% of all the lubricants consumed in Europe ”, Said the mayor.
The planned expansion represents an increase in the production capacity of said plant of approximately 60%, from 740,000 tons of last generation lubricants to more than 1.2 million tons per year.
The deadline for the execution of the works is 18 months, which must begin within 6 months to avoid the expiration of the Environmental Impact Statement, and will also include the construction of storage tanks at the Escombreras port dock.
Currently, Ilboc has 90 direct employees and indirectly hires more than a hundred.
“Once the engineering works are finished, it is expected that the expansion works, which should begin during the next year 2020, involve the hiring of just over 250 people and a hundred local companies, which will undoubtedly be a revulsive in the economy of the municipality ”, concluded Castejón.
