The City Council of Cartagena considers that the modernization of the railway suburbs is “the great pending subject in the transport of travelers in Cartagena”, as said on the morning of December 4, the Vice Mayor of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo, in the presentation of the University Unibono chaired by the Minister of Development and Infrastructure, Jos Ramn Dez de Revenga.
Arroyo recalled that the modernization of the neighborhoods "depends on the electrification of the roads, a project linked to the High Speed project to be developed by the central government."
The counselor said that "the arrival of the AVE in Cartagena will help to modernize some neighborhoods and make them really sustainable and a frequent and fluid connection of Cartagena with the rest of the Region of university students."
Ten of Revenga has presented the new University Unibono that incorporates for this course the bus line that connects the city of Cartagena with the delegation of El Algar, with stops in Roche, Camachos and some scattered hamlets.
This new line brings to a total of 22 the routes that benefit the students and employees of the four Universities present in the municipality (UPCT, UNED, UCAM and UMU).
This public transport card allows students and university staff to travel for an unlimited price of 20 euros per month, on bus lines with origin and destination within the municipality of Cartagena.
The acting rector of the UPCT, Beatriz Miguel Hernndez, explained that thanks to this initiative, “the university is put on the map, allowing university students to choose us to carry out their studies”.
In addition, he said that the use of public transport is a bet to "reduce CO2 emissions and take care of the environment."
Ten de Revenga concluded by highlighting that “the use of the Unibono by students and the university community of Cartagena is growing for the fourth consecutive year,” and indicated that from January to November 2019 “317 new cards have been issued, which represents a growth of 14 percent with respect to the same period of the previous year, totaling 2,646 as of today ”.
