The alleged perpetrators of crime related to the protection of flora, fauna and domestic animals are attributed to those arrested
In the performance, citizen collaboration has been crucial
The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia, thanks to citizen collaboration, has developed the operation 'Fringilides', an investigation aimed at persecuting poaching, which has resulted in the location and detention of three hunters in Cartagena, who were surprised while they illegally captured more than twenty fringilid birds.
The proceedings began last November, when thanks to citizen collaboration, the Civil Guard opened the operation, framed in the 'Plan for the Defense of Biodiversity', to investigate alleged criminal acts related to the illegal capture of birds protected in Cartagena.
Members of the Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA) of the Benemérita established a monitoring device to verify and, where appropriate, clarify the alleged criminal activity.
In one of these services, the civil guards detected in the suburbs of the port city three people who were catching fringilid birds, using four book nets, about six meters, with goldfinches such as cimbel and another claim , so that at that moment they were arrested as alleged perpetrators of crimes related to the protection of flora, fauna and domestic animals;
for its relationship with the capture and illegal possession of protected wildlife species.
During the arrest, those now arrested had 21 protected birds among goldfinches, pardillos and luganos, which were seized and handed over to the El Valle Wildlife Recovery Center in Murcia.
Likewise, all the effects used to carry out the illicit activity clarified, such as networks, cages, etc. were seized.
The crime related to the protection of the flora, fauna and domestic animals, included in the current Criminal Code, establishes that it will be punishable by imprisonment of six months to two years or a fine of eight to twenty four months and, in any case, special disqualification for profession or trade and special disqualification for the exercise of the right to hunt or fish for a period of two to four years who, in contravention of laws or other provisions of a general nature, hunt, fish, acquire, possess or destroy wildlife protected species wild.
The singing training of this type of birds is a traditional cultural practice in the Region of Murcia, although the fringilid birds of this species cannot be captured at present, since they enjoy a special protection regime, relative to the conservation of the same.
The detainees, the effects seized and the proceedings taken have been made available to the Court of Instruction of Cartagena (Murcia).
