Women from various groups give voice to the fight against gender violence in Cartagena (29/11/2019)

The Department of Equality of the City of Cartagena has held this morning, Friday November 29, a conference against sexist violence, entitled 'Walking together makes us strong'.

This act is framed within the program of 25N, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

Held at the Business Nursery for Women, these days have been assisted by the Councilor for Equality, David Martínez, the Councilor for Transparency, General Services and Electronic Administration, Alejandra Gutiérrez, the coordinator for Equality, María José Mercader and the representative of the Gypsy Feminist Association for Diversity, Ana Hernández, among others.

The objective of these is to contextualize sexist violence from the perspective of diverse and racialized women and propose new lines of action in order to combine positions, speeches and forces to generate new socio-political spaces that include intersectional and diverse axes, which raise awareness about these violent acts.

The conference has begun with the performance 'I am a non-submissive feminist', in charge of the Gypsy Feminist Association for Diversity, where through music and dance they have approached feminism, taking into account gender, ethnicity, racism, social class or impoverishment.

Subsequently, there has been a round table 'How do we be affected by sexist violence and proposals for action', where the PhD in Migration Studies and anti-racist and decolonial militant, Salma Amazian, the Bachelor of Political Science and Sociology and expert in gypsy feminism have participated , Sara López, the Bachelor of Science in Communication UNAM and activist for the rights of Trans Women, Sabrina Sánchez, the educational adviser, writer, actress and cultural manager and community feminist anti-racist anti-patriarchal, Julia Castillo and the community of Afro-descendant women- Black and radicalized Spanish speakers, Afroféminas.

The musical performance of 'La Prima y San', a feminist rap against gender violence, has put the finishing touch to the conference.
