This Tuesday, November 26, seven students from the Association of People with Down Syndrome of Cartagena and Cartagena Region (ASIDO) have graduated in Professional Training in Commercial Services from the Polytechnic University of Cartagena.
This is the first promotion of people belonging to this group that graduates in this degree.
The event was held in the Hall of Degrees of the Faculty of Business Sciences - former CIM - of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena.
On behalf of the Municipal Government, the Mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, Vice Mayor Noelia Arroyo and the Councilor for Social Services Mercedes García have attended.
On behalf of the Autonomous Community, the president of the Region of Murcia, Fernando López Miras, and the Minister of Education and Culture, María Esperanza Moreno.
The event has been presented by two students of the promotion, who have told their experience during this training and the training practices they have done in department stores.
Specifically, there are seven students who today have received the degree of Basic FP in Commercial Services;
Bárbara Pérez Chacón, José Sánchez Oliver, María del Mar Gallego Sánchez, Antonio Bellón Clavel, Antonio García Ais, Ana García Segado and Antonio Francisco Paredes Ibañez.
On the other hand, eight other students have also obtained Commerce or Warehouse certificates;
Manuel González Torres, Irene Mª López Pérez, María Navarro Martínez, Immaculate Rodríguez Cánovas, María Vera Saura, Álvaro Mateo Martínez, Paula Andreu López and Alba Zubillaga Henales.
The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, has dedicated a few words to congratulate them and encourage them to continue training.
“You are the best proof that wanting is power and that, with effort, dreams can come true.
Everyone, from the magnificent professionals that Asido has to the administrations, has to contribute so that, through training, you can become increasingly autonomous and achieve that full inclusion of which we speak so much.
This morning you are making history because you are the pioneers who are going to open the way for many more to follow you. â€
The president of ASIDO Cartagena, Juan Pedro Sánchez Bernal, affirms that with this promotion the Vocational Training for people with intellectual disabilities and Down Syndrome is valued.
Sánchez Bernal has highlighted the novelty of this graduation for this group.
"This is the first time that they are going to choose to give a certification so they can qualify for a degree."
The president of the Association of People with Down Syndrome of Cartagena also claims Vocational Training as an outlet for this group.
"By giving them time and the right conditions, they are capable of anything," according to Juan Pedro Sánchez Bernal.
During this professional training, the fifteen students of ASIDO Cartagena have completed training practices at El Corte Inglés, Carrefour and Leroy Merlin.
In this way, they have been able to deepen the knowledge in Commercial Services that they have received at the UPCT.
