The City of Cartagena, in accordance with the objectives of the 2030 Agenda and the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Sustainable Energy, which they signed on February 12, 2018, is preparing the draft of the document version 0.0, in which It includes the implementation of the Local Forum on Climate Change, whose main objective is to promote public awareness and participation in this area.
The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, who inaugurated this Tuesday, November 26, the Municipal Archive to the day of citizen participation of the Action Plan on Climate and Sustainable Energy PACES, together with the councilor delegate of Sustainable City and European Projects , Cristina Mora, has affirmed that “this document serves as a starting point to start an intense but exciting work, which we will have to do together, reviewing it, at most, every two years, to evaluate successes and failures, and collect all the initiatives of the forum ”.
In addition, he stressed that "without the participation of neighbors, companies and different administrations we can never achieve the desired objectives."
With the signing of the Pact for Climate and Sustainable Energy, the City Council undertakes to adopt the necessary measures so that Cartagena reaches the energy targets set by Europe to the municipalities of all European countries, adapting to climate change.
Castejón explained that, among other actions, the City Council, through the Department of Environment, has committed to:
Reduce CO2 emissions by 40% by 2030.
Increase energy efficiency savings by 27%.
Increase the consumption of energy from renewable sources by 27%.
Prepare a Reference Emissions Inventory (IER).
Present the Action Plan for Sustainable Energy and Climate (PACES) within two years of the official signing of the Pact, where all actions aimed at mitigating and adapting to the effects of climate change will be collected.
Submit a follow-up report at least every two years.
Monitoring of the results obtained by the measures taken at least until 2030, adapting the documents if necessary.
The day of citizen participation of the Plan of Action on Climate and Sustainable Energy, inaugurated by the mayor of Cartagena and which has been closed by the Councilor Delegate of Sustainable City and European Projects, has been assisted by the councilors of the corporation Municipal, Jesús Giménez and Pilar Marcos.
It is organized by the Area of ​​Infrastructure, Services and Coastline and the Area of ​​Urban Planning, Smart City, Environment and Agriculture, European Funds, Archeology, Housing and Strategic Projects of the City of Cartagena.
During the day, the valuations of the measures and the proposed actions of the Climate Change Mitigation Plan of the PACES group coordinator, Pedro Yepes, and the municipal technical engineer, Eva Hernández, have been explained.
The first mayor concluded by affirming that the objective of this day is "to lay the foundations for the preparation of document 0.0".
