Young people shout in 25N 'No to gender violence' (25/11/2019)

Cartagena has joined the celebration of the 25N, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

In addition to the demonstration convened after 5 pm, from the Plaza de España, and the reading of the manifesto in the Regional Assembly, the educational centers of the municipality have organized numerous activities and events claiming full equality between men and women and the end of gender violence.

The events have started early in the morning at the IES El Bohío, where fourth-year students have performed a choreography accompanied by the lyrics and music of the song 'The Violet Door', by singer Rozalén.

The Councilor for Equality of the City Council of Cartagena, David Martínez, the coordinator of this area, María José Mercader and workers of the CAVIS Centers of Specialized Care for Women Victims of Gender Violence have attended.

The mayor of Equality, David Martínez, explained that “more than a thousand women have been murdered by men.

Therefore, it is very important that we stop, reflect, work and fight against sexist violence, but, above all it is very important to do it from education. â€

The head of the Orientation Department of the IES El Bohío, Manuel Moya, has indicated that “every year we carry out activities this day†to raise awareness among students about the importance of fighting gender violence.

After the dance performance, some students of the institute have read a few words in defense of women's rights and the equality of all.

A student of the center, Amanda Cortés, has affirmed that these acts serve to “give a voice to women and in concentration, those that are no longer thereâ€.

To these words, Tomás Gómez, one of the students of this center, has added that “we must put an end to gender violence because we are all equalâ€.

After the events held at the IES Bohío, the Councilor for Equality of the City of Cartagena has visited the San Isidoro Institute, in Los Dolores, where there has been a minute of silence for women victims of gender violence, a theatrical performance, the reading of poems about poetesses and letters and the exhibition of vindictive crafts in defense of women.

Before reading the manifesto, David Martínez has asked students that “that anger that man sometimes has, you have to put an end to him through sport but never against a woman because we have all been born and spent 9 months in a woman.

When you have a bad gesture towards a girl remember that woman who gave you life because assaulting and insulting is cowardly and not brave, so always respect them.

Several students of the center have been in charge of reading a manifesto that they have denounced and asked among other questions:

We denounce a judicial system that victimizes and mistreats women and we demand that the formation of judges, prosecutors, lawyers, coroners, security forces and security forces be implemented in the judicial system, that treat men and women equally, especially to those related to crimes of gender violence and crimes against sexual freedom.

We denounce to the media that they deal with scandal and without responsibility the sexist aggressions that kill and rape women.

As a result of the previous one, we ask the media to report unambiguously, otherwise you will not be informants but you are encouraged by media violence, becoming accomplices.

We ask that it is enough to harm the dignity of women, to say that they die, of romantic myths and to ridicule the mistreated and assaulted, to suspect their words or their silence, to ask why they do not report and hold them accountable, to dirty Your memory or your self-esteem.

David Martínez concluded by asking the students to “always ask for help and have the support of the Department of Equality and the workers of the CAVISâ€.
