The City Council of Cartagena hosted on Wednesday afternoon, November 20, the second edition of the Children's Plenary, in which the children of the Municipal Council of Children and Adolescents have made their proposals in the subject chosen for this course, leisure and free time, as well as their reflections on the commitments acquired in the past year by the municipal government.
The children's plenary has been chaired by Mayor Ana Belén Castejón, who highlighted the fact that UNICEF recognized Cartagena as a Child Friendly City because it is because in the City Council “we set as a priority objective to design and develop policies effective publics, based on the Convention on the Rights of the Child, to improve the well-being of children, defending their rights and encouraging their participation â€.
For this, last year the Municipal Plan for Children and Adolescents 2018/2022 was prepared, we created the Municipal Council for Children and Adolescents, as a necessary body to make effective the participation of Children and Adolescents in municipal policies.
The event also had the participation of the vice mayor, Noelia Arroyo, the Councilor for Social Services, Mercedes Garcia, and UNICEF representative, Damián Pérez Olmos, and the presence of the Deputy Mayor, Manuel Padín, along with others municipal representatives among whom were councilors Irene Ruiz, Alejandra Gutiérrez, Juan Pedro Torralba, Isabel García, Jesús Giménez, Arzancha Pérez, Gonzalo Abad and Aurelia García;

A representation formed by 16 minors of different ages have thanked the local government for the improvements they have seen in their neighborhoods and throughout the municipality and have made a series of proposals, distributed in 7 strategic points such as: Libraries, study support, museums , dances, music, parks and leisure activities.
In addition, the children have assessed very positively that many of the proposals they raised in the previous plenary session have been fulfilled by the municipal government.
“The City Council of Cartagena intends that you, as minors and adolescents, be the main beneficiaries of all our actions, and for this it is necessary and essential to take into account your opinions.
The Convention on the Rights of the Child recognizes in its article 31 the right of the child to rest, leisure, play and participate in recreational activities of his own age, â€recalled the mayor.
CARTAGENA CARTAGENA CHILD FRIENDSHIP CITY
Before the full council, the mayor, along with councilors, children and the president of UNICEF in the Region of Murcia, Amparo Marzal, discovered the sign that points to Cartagena as "Child Friendly City."
The sign has been installed in the immediate vicinity of the Plaza de los Héroes de Cavite and Santiago de Cuba, with the idea that it can be warned by citizens and people who arrive in the city through the port.
